drug cartel enforcer who dissolved hundreds of people in vats of acid is set to be freed from prison. Santiago Meza Lopez aka El Pozolero (The Stewmaker) was first captured back in 2009 and confessed to helping the brutal Sinaloa Cartel disappear countless bodies.

Estimates as to how many people he dissolved have ranged from around 300 to thousands. He was known to work across at least 10 locations in Tijuana, Mexico, most notably the Chicken Coup farm near to the US border. The Stewmaker was sentenced to a decade in prison back in 2012, meaning that he is set to be released this year.

Fernando Ocegueda Flores, founder of the United Association for the Disappeared of Baja California, told Borderland Beat: "This is very sad news for many families that at the time caused them some anger because of the work he did. "But it’s the law and the law must be followed.

So, even if we don't like it, he will be released, he will be able to move freely in society once again. "Let’s hope that the time he was confined he returned to the path of good."Court documents reveal Lopez was chosen for the job while working on a farm in 1996, where senior members of the cartel asked him to carry out an “experiment” with water and acid in a barrel. They dropped a leg of meat into the solution and let it sit for two hours where it dissolved.Since news of the disturbing practice was made public, Lopez has always insisted that he was forced into the work by cartel bosses. He told police: "They called me again and told me that now they were going to experiment with human flesh."I'm going to send some guys to train with you.
