They used cloned wireless key signals to open the car doors on the drive, without having to enter the owners' homes. The organised criminals targeted homes across Lancashire, Merseyside and Cheshire, and were caught following an investigation led by Merseyside Police with the help of neighbouring forces, Lancashire Live reports.
The investigation, codenamed Operation Awakening, was described as one of the biggest there has been into organised theft in the north west.
