A man was taken to hospital with a head injury after a 'violent disturbance' in broad daylight outside a shop in Chorlton. Police were called to reports of a disturbance on Mersey Bank Avenue, near to the Mersey Bank Convenience Store, at around 8.40am on Saturday (May 9).

A 49-year-old was taken to hospital from the scene with a head injury. He has since been discharged, GMP said. A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.

Enquiries into the 'isolated incident' are ongoing. Detective Inspector Chris Maddocks, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “This was a violent disturbance which has resulted in a man being injured. “I would like to reassure the public that this appears to be an isolated
