A benefits cheat claimed he was wheelchair-bound to swindle £90,000 from taxpayers over 17 years - before being caught teaching exercise classes and racing in cycle Speedway events.

A court heard Stephen Hodgkinson, 58, lied about needing 24/7 care, including assistance to walk, and struggled with everyday tasks like eating and getting dressed.

Department for Work and Pensions investigators discovered he was taking part in the Birmingham Monarchs cycle speedway, running indoor Vibe cycling classes and going to the gym.

Pictures of him splashed across social media with trophies from his event successes also formed part of the damning case against him, reports BirminghamLive.
