Manchester City have rubbished claims from Atletico Madrid that they have made a £78m bid for Jose Gimenez. Atletico president Enrique Cerezo insists the Spanish club have turned down the offer from the English giants.But Etihad insiders have expressed their 'surprise' at Cerez's comments and insist he is talking nonsense.City boss Pep Guardiola is keen on signing the Uruguayan centre back to bolster his defence and has registered his interest in the 25-year-old.Cerezo said: "We did receive the offer, but Gimenez is a magnificent player and we are interested in having magnificent players in the team."But City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak has not put a bid on the table and believes Gimenez is worth closer to £50m rather than what Atletico.
