Twitter to express mock-gratitude and confusion for receiving a compensation cheque from Northern Powergrid for an eye-watering sum of money greater than £2trillion.
Gareth Hughes, an accountant from Hebden Bridge, posted a picture of the cheque on the social media platform which has since gone viral, showing a cheque made out to himself from the energy provider for a staggering £2,324,252,080,110.
Jokingly, Mr Hughes thanked Northern Powergrid for the compensation. He posted: "Thank you for our compensation payment @Northpowergrid for the several days we were without power following #stormarwen Before I bank the cheque however, are you 100% certain you can afford this? #trillionpounds."Northern Power Grid, which sent the cheque to Mr Hughes for Storm Arwen-related damages, thanked him for bringing the mistake to the company's attention and calling the incorrect figure an "oversight".
The provider then asked for his contact details so the error could be corrected. Mr Hughes followed up with a further tweet, advising Northern Powergrid to check other payments made, as he knew of at least four neighbours who also received cheques for the same, whopping amount.Naturally, Twittersphere has dined out on the gaff.
