Then there are the city's restaurants, from DiverXO by Dabiz Muñoz, voted the world's top chef in 2021, to its oldest, Botín, so renowned that its suckling pig is mentioned in Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises.
Then there's Galería Canalejas, set to be the most luxurious place to shop in the city when complete later this spring. This dazzlingly high-end new retail space will have two floors of luxury boutiques (Hermès and Cartier have already opened - others including Loewe and Fendi will follow any minute) and a vast gourmet food hall.The Edition's exterior sets the tone nicely: it is clean-lined and modern, its only embellishment a wonderfully decorative 18th-century baroque door frame salvaged from an adjacent building and now the entrance to the hotel's restaurant.
Round the corner, the main entrance features a copper canopy, transformed into a sea of green via some clever vertical planting.
