HBO has renewed We’re Here, but there are some huge changes happening!

In 2019, Rose Glass announced herself to the world with the phenomenal Saint Maud. The film was an immersive character study of one lonely woman clinging to sanity in the wake of a personal trauma. Audiences loved Saint Maud with a common thread across all reviews being how hard it was to believe that it was only Glass’ feature debut. This year Glass returns with her second film, Love Lies Bleeding, which just debuted at Sundance. Whereas Saint Maud made a star out of lead Morfydd Clark, Love Lies Bleeding is set to do the same for Katy O’Brian.

We’re Here is getting a revamp. HBO announced today it has renewed the reality series for a fourth season with new hosts Drag Race Season 9 winner Sasha Velour, Canada’s Drag Race Season 1 winner Priyanka and Drag Race Season 12 champ Jaida Essence Hall. They will replace Bob the Drag Queen, D.J. “Shangela” Pierce and Eureka O’Hara, who starred in the first three seasons. Production is slated to begin on Season 4 later this month.

Selome Hailu HBO has renewed “We’re Here” for Season 4 and introduced a new cast after the first three seasons were led by Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O’Hara and Shangela. Season 4 of the unscripted series will follow Sasha Velour, Priyanka and Jaida Essence Hall, as they continue the goal of the series to spread love and connection through the art of drag across small-town America.

Announced last year, the film is now in post-production and scheduled for an early 2024 premiere. The film is the feature directorial debut of Vincent Lin, a successful commercials director and co-founder of Valiant Pictures. The film, written by Lin, also stars Golden Horse Film Award winner Leon Dai (“Your Name Engraved Herein,” “Cannot Live Without You”) and Taiwanese legend Wu Min (“The Queen!”).

The subject matter is especially resonant given the recent representation of America’s drug crisis on screen in shows such as Hulu’s “Dopesick.”“The themes and characters in ‘Stay Awake’ mean the world to me since they’re based on my childhood.

Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O’Hara, and Shangela will be back with more fun in small-town America in a third season of We’re Here which was greenlit on Thursday by HBO.

We’re Here (★★★★☆) isn’t just feel-good TV. The Emmy-nominated HBO Max docu-reality series appears to truly do good, following drag stars Shangela, Eureka, and Bob the Drag Queen on a tour of small-town America, offering community, counsel, and uplifting drag to LGBTQ folk and their family and friends.The smiles are infectious, and the tears sincerely touching, almost in spite of a formula familiar from decades of daytime TV, makeover reality series, Queer Eye, and RuPaul’s Drag U.

Succession finale yet, then don’t worry. It’s very quietly become the best show on TV – so you’re not the only tellyhead to have missed out.
