Michel, who was hailed as one of the greatest chefs in the world, opened his world-famous restaurant La Gavroche in 1982 - it was one of the first to recieve the coveted three Michelin stars.

He passed away on Wednesday night surrounded by his family at home in the UK after battling a long-standing lung condition, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. .In a statement, Michel's son Alain and his daughters Francine and Christine said: "It is with deep sadness that the Roux family announces the passing of our beloved grandfather, father, brother and uncle, Michel Roux OBE.
