Lanark woman among those named in the New Years Honours list 2023

A well known Lanark woman has been named in the New Year's Honours List of 2023.Loraine Swan is "honoured" to have been awarded a Medal of the Order of the British Empire for services to the community within her hometown.An ex-teacher and depute head teacher, Loraine, is also a former chair of the Lanark Lanimer Committee after taking up the post following on from Millar Stoddart back in 2014 and carrying out her duties over the three-year term of office.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

She was also chosen as Crowning Lady and became vice-chairwoman some three years before taking up her chairwoman role..Outside of her various Lanimer roles, Loraine has been a Sunday School teacher at Cairns/Greyfriars Church for over 50 years and serves on the Session as an Elder.Loraine also served as past chair of Lanark U3A and is currently a Group Coordinator with the club.

She was past chair of the Inner Wheel of Lanark and currently is their programme secretary and she has proudly been a member of Kilninie Club for over 50 years, the team which continues to put on Lanimer Lorries.
