In two shock statements from Buckingham Palace, it was announced that Kate Middleton was recovering from abdominal surgery and just minutes later revealed that King Charles had sought treatment for an enlarged prostate.

The statements, which were released on Wednesday, 17 January, came as a surprise as the health of senior members of the Royal Family is rarely disclosed to the public.

The timing of the two announcements, released so close together, has struck up attention and there are some reasons behind it, according to a royal expert.
