Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has stated that Jordan Henderson has had a bigger impact at the club than Xabi Alonso. The two players will no doubt leave a lasting legacy at the Reds.
Alonso played for five years in midfield at Anfield alongside Steven Gerrard in one of the most talented pairings of that era.
He went on to play starring roles at European giants Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. The Spaniard won the World Cup with his country in 2008, while at club level he landed three major honours.
That includes the Champions League in 2005, where he scored in the incredible 3-3 comeback against AC Milan in Istanbul. Henderson, on the other hand, has grafted his way to the top at Anfield - coming from Sunderland.
