Steven Gerrard

Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.

He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,

Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.

Saturday May 30, 2020 should have seen Europe’s two best teams go head to head to fight it out in the season crescendo that is the Champions League final.

The showpiece occasion was set to take place in Istanbul, 15 years after arguably the competition's greatest final was decided in the city.

The coronavirus pandemic may have starved us of a glittering finale, but we still intend to respect the occasion and what better way, than to remember the miracle of Istanbul.

In 2005 Liverpool trailed AC Milan 3-0 at halftime, yet somehow a team led by Steven Gerrard hauled themselves back from the brink to clinch the unlikeliest of European crowns.
