The inspirational Jamaica Bobsled Team never have been possible if it wasn’t for the father of John Barnes. Colonel Roderick Kendrick Barnes was an officer in the Jamaica Defence Force, and was approached by Howard Siler (played by John Candy in the 1993 film) a former American bobsledder who used to holiday in Caribbean.
The Colonel was asked if he knew of any athletes who might be interested in forming the new team, with Siler certain that the sprint was the most important part of the race.
