Japan banning foreign nationals from country amid 'level 3' coronavirus warning

Japan is set to ban foreign nationals from the country following an explosive surge in coronavirus cases, it has been reported.

Travellers from the United States, China and South Korea, as well as most of Europe, are among those who will not be allowed to enter, according to NHK.

Officials are also urging its citizens not to travel to 73 countries and regions, or a third of all countries. And people are being ordered to stay at home except for essential needs.

It comes as pressure is being put on Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to declare a state of emergency. Japan has had 1,953 confirmed coronavirus cases, and 56 deaths.
