Mark Zuckerberg is hardly the most likely candidate for one of the world's most powerful men. But as his company, Meta, continues to grow its 2 billion-strong user base across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, Zuckerberg isn't exactly short of cash.Although he only earns a salary of $1 per year on paper, Zuckerberg made his billions off of selling shares in Facebook, which hit the stock market in 2012.

It was the biggest IPO in history, netting Zuckerberg billions of dollars almost overnight from the company he started at uni.

So how does the son of a dentist spend his vast fortune? Unlike other tech billionaires, Zuckerberg isn't known for splashing his cash on space programmes or underground tunnels, and enjoys a quiet family life with his wife Priscilla Chan.However, he spends a lot of money on property, most recently in December when he extended his controversial 1,500-acre private estate in Kauai, Hawaii by 110 acres.Zuckerberg has come under fire multiple time from his Hawaiian neighbours after filing lawsuits against locals with shares in small pockets of his land.

Although he dropped the lawsuits, local Hawaiians are still angry at the Facebook founder's expensive landgrab.'Zuck' was also criticised in 2016 for building 6-foot tall stone walls that made it harder to access the beach, as wealthy investors continue to price out locals in Kauai.“People have always seen the value of living in Hawaii, in paradise, and for many generations now, it’s been a detriment to us,” Kauai council member Mason Chock told the Guardian.“They’ve come in and purchased land and raised the value so much.
