Lung disease kills 7,000 people in Scotland every year, according to research. The study, completed by Asthma + Lung UK Scotland, also revealed that the UK as a whole has one one the highest lung disease death rates in Europe - with only Turkey being worse.
The organisation is now calling for more action in a bid to fight the problem as it launched the new Fighting for Breath strategy.
It said that only 2 per cent of publicly-funded research is spent on lung disease despite it being the third biggest cause of death throughout the UK.
Lung disease impacts hundreds of thousands throughout Scotland with one in five people diagnosed with a lung conditions at some point in their lives.
