Dame Vera Lynn has died at the age of 103, her family has confirmed. The singer - who became known as the Forces' sweetheart during World War Two - leaves behind one daughter, Virginia Lewis-Jones.
Virginia, now 74, was her only child with her late husband Harry Lewis, who she married in 1941. Vera and Harry were together until his death in 1998.
She met Harry in 1939 when he joined Bert Ambrose's eponymous orchestra, with which she performed. Vera said Harry was "terribly good looking, with a fine head of hair, even if he was rather short".
Harry, a clarinetist and saxophonist, and eight other members of the Ambrose orchestra joined the RAF at the start of the war and soon formed a new orchestra, The Squadronaires.
