'I cannot think of a better human being': Councillor's heartbreaking tribute after losing mum to coronavirus

A Manchester councillor has issued a heartbreaking tribute after losing her mother to coronavirus aged 82. Labour's Joanna Midgley, who represents the Chorlton Park ward and is also Assistant Executive Member for Housing and Regeneration, said her 'wonderful' mum Pat Midgley died this morning after being treated at Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.

The loss was made all the more painful because of the manner of her illness as a result of contracting Covid-19. Only one family member at a time was able to visit for an hour on Friday and Saturday in full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Cllr Midgley said.
