Shocking figures show 631 prisoners escaped open jails in the UK over the past five years – including rapists and murderers.
These jails hold inmates with "open" conditions as a way to test prisoner's readiness to be released. The Category D prisons include minimal supervision and perimeter security, where some inmates have disappeared after being allowed out to attend education classes, go to work visit family.
