'Hottest day of the year' coming this week as tropical blast pushes mercury above 20C

warmer this week as Brits continue to bathe in a balmy beginning to spring.Temperatures could soar into the twenties over the next few days, potentially breaking the high of 20.2C recorded at the weekend in Kinlochewe, Scotland.The uptick in conditions means many parts of the country could be warmer than Spain, with London expected to be a whole 9C hotter than Madrid on Wednesday.It comes as warm winds from the south bring a tropical flavour to weather across the British Isles following a dull and wet start to the month.Met Office meteorologist Steven Keates told the Express: "Pleasantly warm will best describe the weather over the next few days – nothing overly exceptional on the cards, but temperatures well above average nonetheless."Top figure likely to be around 20C on Tuesday in a zone from London towards Cambridgeshire, as well as parts of the West Midlands, northwest England and north and west Wales."Wednesday could also see 20C in a few spots, again central/western England, London area, perhaps northern Scotland too."When asked if Britons could enjoy the hottest day of the year so far, Mr Keates said it was possible.

Forecasters are also split over whether a period of even hotter weather could be on the way later in the spring.Excitement has been brewing among Brits in recent days after news of the potential scorcher broke.
