However, after jogging back to his defensive position, the centre-back fell to the floor in worrying scenes.Play was stopped as soon as Araujo fell to the ground, and it didn't resume for another eight minutes as the defender received treatment on the pitch before being moved into an ambulance.
Eric Garcia was closest to the defender, and he put him in the recovery position after he fell.Barcelona tweeted: "Ronald Araujo has suffered a concussion and has been taken to the hospital to undergo further testing."Awareness around head injuries has improved over the past couple of years with the implementation of the concussion protocol.
Referees must now stop the game if any player has the signs of a head injury.Gavi was able to carry on playing despite being part of the collision, while Clement Lenglet replaced Araujo.Barcelona had been leading the La Liga game against Celta Vigo 3-1 at the time of the collision, and it remained that way until the final whistle.Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found the net twice after Memphis Depay opened the scoring for the Catalan side on Tuesday evening.
