With infection rates rising and concerns growing over the spread of the Indian variant, mayor Andy Burnham says the Department for Education needs to let schools use their own discretion to suit local circumstances.
Last week the government lifted the rule on mask wearing in class, listing a fall in infection rates nationally and the pace of the vaccine rollout among the reasons for this.
