Former Premier League referee Jeff Winter admits he once dished out yellow cards “for nothing”, insisting it was an effective way of keeping players in line.
Winter spent nine years as a referee in the English top flight before hanging his whistle up, taking charge of his final match in Manchester United’s 2004 FA Cup final win over Millwall.
