rugby union star Pedrie Wannenburg has died after he was reportedly hit by a teenage suspect fleeing police.The former Sprinbok player was flown to hospital, where he died of his injuries aged just 41.
His wife, Evette, and kids Francois and Isabelle were also in the vehicle but survived without serious injuries. The incident reportedly occurred in the US on Friday (April 22) during a high-speed police chase which ended in a multi-vehicle collision.
News reports in Harris County, Texas, claim a deputy had tried to pull over a 16-year-old, only for the car to speed away and lead to a chase.The teen suspect ended up crashing into the back of Wannenburg's car near an intersection.
His son is reportedly undergoing treatment, while the driver and two passengers of the suspect vehicle were also taken to hospital.Back-row forward Wannenburg represented South Africa 20 times between 2002 and 2007.
