The former Home Office chief who resigned from the department after claiming the Home Secretary has launched a "vicious and orchestrated" campaign against him has launched a legal bid against the government.

Sir Philip Rutnam, who was the top official at the Home Office, has launched a constructive dismissal case against his former department according to his union.

Since reports emerged in February Priti Patel has denied all allegations that she behaved inappropriately to either Sir Philip or other Home Office staff.
