The coastguard has issued an official warning against tombstoning after three people were seriously injured at Durdle Door yesterday.

Hundreds of Brits turned up at the Dorset beach on Saturday to make the most of the hot, sunny weather. Four people jumped off a 70ft (21m) cliff into the water below at about 4pm, three of whom then had to be rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

One had to be pulled to safety from the sea, while another managed to walk back to their friends but quickly began feeling "very unwell".

Both were airlifted to the major trauma centre in Southampton. A third cliff jumper was taken by ambulance to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester.
