The comments came following reports that an unnamed member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) said a “precautionary break” could be part of “contingency plans” in the event of another wave of infections.
A government spokesperson told reporters today that the government does have contingency plans - but that they would “only be reintroduced as a last resort” to protect the NHS.
