Coronation Street actress Dilys Watling has lost her battle with a long term illness at the age of 798. The star who played Merle Baker in the iconic ITV soap in 1966 and held a starring role in Two Ronnies, passed away at her home in Clapham Common on August 10, her family have confirmed.
Dilys, who was born in Fulmer Chase, Buckinghamshire in May 1943, leaves behind her son Ion - who was named after her father.She endured an exciting on-screen career and was nominated for a prestigious Tony Award during her career on Broadway in New York.
Her heartbroken family who have paid tribute, described the TV starlet as a "trailblazer".Dilys came from a large family and had four other brothers and sisters from her mum's marriage to actor Jack.
