Deontay Wilder has revealed that Jake Paul isn't the only boxing star to have sparked out a mascot with the Bronze Bomber having performed a similar stunt three years earlier. The former WBC heavyweight champion, 36, alleges to have broken the jaw of a man underneath a Burrito-based costume when a live TV stunt went wrong.
The incident occurred in 2018 when Wilder appeared on Nacion ESPN to promote the first of his trilogy fights with Tyson Fury. After reportedly breaking his jaw with a clean right hook, the Bronze Bomber apologised unreservedly and also invited him to see the bout on February 20th 2020.
Wilder told the Daily Mail: "One minute I’m doing an interview and the next I look up there’s a big a** burrito to the right of me, waiting on me."I didn’t hit no mascots or anything like that before and I said, 'Yeah cool let’s make it happen'.
So once I got to select where I got to hit him, I told them 'I’m a headhunter, I like to knock you out!'"I’m one of the hardest punchers in the world and I thought there was going to be more cushion or whatever, but when I hit him it was like another opponent, it was crazy.
