Corrie's Beverley Callard has revealed her heartbreak after a 'dear friend' died in her arms.The 66 year old actress, who is best-known for playing Liz McDonald on Coronation Street, recently took part in Channel 4 show Don't Look Down, which will air tonight, on Tuesday, October 10, for Stand up to Cancer.The show is hosted by Take Me Out star Paddy McGuinness, 50, and it will see nine celebs go into the Austrian Alps to learn how to high wire walk, and face a series of vertigo-inducing tasks to prepare them for one final challenge – to wire walk 90 metres above one of London’s most iconic landmarks. Speaking ahead of the show, Beverley made a heartbreaking confession, as she spoke about the personal impact that cancer has had on her life.

Beverley Callard's 'secret role' on Coronation Street, years before she joined the ITV soap as Liz McDonald.Beverley joined the soap as Liz McDonald in 1989 but has been spotted by viewers in an unearthed clip from 1984 as a character called Julie.In the scene, Gail and Brian go to the local casino to meet with some gambling-savvy pals called Gary and Julie.Beverley looks worlds apart from what she does now and was difficult to recognise, hence why it has mainly gone unnoticed for all of these years.A user shared an old clip of the show on Reddit and said: "1984 - Gail and Brian go to a casino with Brian's friends - look at the actress!"To which another user replied: "Is that Bev Callard?""It is! Five years before she came in as Liz," they answered.Revelling in the news, other fans joined in the discussion, with one saying: "I’m watching the 1990s straight thru and Liz is my favourite character right now! Coronation Street almost two years ago after 31 years of playing Liz McDonald.The actress has spoken in a new interview about her time on the soap and why her decision to leave ended up being an easy one.Beverly announced her departure from the award-winning soap in 2019, with her final scenes airing in 2020.Not too soon after leaving the show, Beverly took part in the twentieth series of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, finishing in third place.Beverly has spoken to the Sun's TV magazine about her time on the soap and why she decided to leave after 31 years.She said: "As an actor, you’re scared to say no to a job, but the scripts came and I thought I’ve just got to trust my instincts really."It's not nine to five, it’s like seven until ten at night and it’s six days a week."It's really full on and you have no life, like it used to be a lot harder years ago when the cast was smaller."Beverly even admitted that she thinks the soap's quality has gone downhill since she started in 1989.The actress believes Corrie is "overloaded with soap operas" and calls it a "shame" due to the show's promise.Back in September, Beverley said she was a "workaholic" and began to struggle on set because she was suffering with depression.She said: "I'd struggled for so long knowing something was wrong but not on set knowing exactly what it was."You say all those things to yourself, like 'get a grip.' In the end I couldn't go on any longer.
