Pop goddess Cher was a household name the world over in 1975, having risen to stardom as one half of the iconic duo Sonny and Cher.
From the age of 16, Cher had been in a close relationship with Sonny Bono, who introduced her to the music scene and they formed a successful singing partnership.
They went on to unofficially marry in Tijuana, Mexico, on October 27, 1964, before marrying officially after the birth of their son Chaz Bono on March 4, 1969.
However, the marriage remained troubled until 1974 when Sonny filed for a separation, which Cher countered by filing for divorce.
