Selome Hailu CBS has given a pilot order to “East New York,” a drama series written by William Finkelstein and Mike Flynn.The series follows Regina Haywood, the newly promoted police captain of East New York, an impoverished, working class neighborhood at the eastern edge of Brooklyn. She leads a diverse group of officers and detectives, some of whom are reluctant to deploy her creative methods of serving and protecting during the midst of social upheaval and the early seeds of gentrification.Finkelstein is best known for his writing and producing work on a number of police and legal dramas.

Channing Tatum is taking on a new role as producer of a project for Amazon Studios.The 40-year-old Magic Mike star will team with Scooter Braun and the streaming giant for an as-yet-untitled Lady Macbeth young adult musical feature.According to editors at The Hollywood Reporter, Tatum will produce through his Free Association production company, alongside partners Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan, and Michael Parets.

There have been many different, unique iterations of Shakespeare’s titanic tragedy “Macbeth” throughout film history. Ranging from Kurosawa’s “Throne of Blood” to the recent Florence Pugh-breakout “Lady Macbeth,” the narrative template of Shakespeare’s story has proven to be timeless and malleable, allowing artists to adapt and reinterpret the material to support new contexts and themes over time.

Amazon Studios is screwing its courage to the sticking place, picking up an untitled Lady Macbeth feature project that has Scooter Braun and Channing Tatum among its producers. And among the unique distinguishing spots on the project is that it is a musical and YA-centric.
