Police got into a shootout with two children – aged 12 and 14 – who managed to break into a home and use a varied arsenal of guns to battle it out with officers.Last June, authorities from Florida said then 12-year-old Travis O'Brien and 14-year-old Nicole Jackson would be slammed with charges for attempted first-degree murder of law enforcement officers. The insane incident occurred as police were already searching for the pair due to them fleeing a Florida United Methodist Children's Home and diabetic O'Brien had left without his medication.Mike Chitwood, Volusia County Sheriff, told reporters at the time: "So the deputies in the Deltona area go out looking for this 12-year-old and this 14-year-old because the 12-year-old is insulin-dependent and the 12-year-old, if he doesn’t get his medication within four hours, it’s going to be a critical medical emergency."A local witness claimed the searching police officers heard what sounded like a breaking window and upon investigation it was clear the property had been broken into.

Luckily officers didn't immediately rush into the property and liaised with the homeowner first – discovering that there was an AK-47, a pump action shotgun and over 200 rounds of ammunition inside. As authorities reportedly began to get into surrounding positions of the property they were able to hear youngsters inside using bats and other tools to wreck the house.

Sheriff Chitwood said to reporters at the time, saying: "At 8:28, one of my sergeants who was the first to arrive, Sgt. Donnie Maxwell takes fire multiple times, never returns fire."At 8:31, one of our units reports they’re being fired at by the 12- and the 14-year-old.
