Blackouts across London as thousands of homes hit by major power cut

homes have been hit by power cuts across London today.Blackouts have been reported in 37 postcode areas so far, according to website Ukpowernetworks.It is estimated that at least 5000 households have been impacted by the incident since reports came in shortly after 12pm this afternoon.

The website has recorded high concentrations of cuts in neighbourhoods near to the Thames including Vauxhall, Bermondsey and Westminster.

The major blackouts seem to have caused disruption in South East London including Greenwich, as residents flock to social media to complain.While drivers in Limehouse and Wapping report that traffic lights "went out" causing them confusion on the roads.

One woman said on Twitter that the blackouts had hit both Lidl and Pure Gym in Limehouse.While a man told MyLondon: "Yes Limehouse and Wapping affected whole blocks of flats out of power and traffic lights not working.
