James McAvoy has revealed he gets stick during visits to Scotland for sounding English. The 42-year-old actor appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote Cyrano de Bergerac, which is now performing at Brooklyn Academy of Music for the next eight weeks.

The X-Men actor paid a visit to his hometown last month and performed the show at Glasgow’s Theatre Royal for a week-long stint.

But he admitted that when he does return to Glasgow, locals think he's gone "well English".McAvoy, who was brought up in the Drumchapel area of the city, has lived between London and America for the last 20 years - and he thinks his accent reflects that.During an interview with Stephen Colbert, the two discussed McAvoy's strong Glasgow accent, which the host "didn't realise" he had before they first met.He said: "I think the first time I interviewed you I didn't realise you had such a pronounced Scottish accent."I had only seen you play either American or British people."When you go home, do they say you've changed?
