Athlete suffers pole vault nightmare as pole snaps during World Athletics Championship

World Athletics Championship.Sykora was competing in the eighth event of the decathlon when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The 27-year-old, who cleared 4.10m with his first attempt, came unstuck in a big way when he attempted 4.30m. The former world junior decathlon champion saw his pole snap in two like a twig just seconds after he planted it in the ground.

Sykora didn't get more than a couple of metres off the floor before tumbling onto the mat as pieces of carbon fibre rained down around him.
