dog lover has insisted he is 'not a hero' after he jumped into a freezing lake and smashed through glass to save a drowning pooch.
Darcy Bell, 31, was out running with his neighbour yesterday (Saturday, January 9) when he saw a dog struggling in the icy lake in the park in Pontefract.
He has recalled to Yorkshire Live how his instinct took over and he sprinted towards the water before he jumped in. Darcy, who is a security engineer from Featherstone, told the publication how at first he saw a group of people watching the dog in the water.Then he realised the pooch was desperate and so, dived in.Darcy said: "I began to run back down instantly."I'd initially thought that the people nearest would be able to get him out but the dog had gone.
