GB News.The upstart channel, which launched in June, has had a mixed reception: it is variously regarded as a valuable corrective to a smug, Brexit-allergic BBC or, alternatively, a ‘pound-shop Fox’, sullying the dignity of TV news with its brash brand of opinion from ‘Barrage the Farage’ and tabloid-on-telly filler fodder.

Last month, Andrew Neil, the station’s lead presenter and pugnacious chairman, left the channel in a flurry of recriminations concerning technical amateurism and political direction, saying the experience of working there left him ‘close to a breakdown’.

An email to staff regarding his departure from CEO Angelos Frangopoulos was barbed: ‘Andrew joined GB News 12 months ago and signed a multi-year contract so we hoped.
