A wildlife charity intends to create additional habitat at its Motherwell nature reserve. RSPB is seeking approval from North Lanarkshire Council to carry out land engineering at the Barons Haugh nature reserve, located to the south of the town on the banks of the Clyde.

The reserve is home to a diverse range of bird and insect species but the high flow levels of the river are causing erosion to the existing bund - a protective embankment - which is required to protect the wetland areas. The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
