Bevis Mugabi hopes to play his way back into the Ugandan national team this season, but says that will only come if he plays well for Motherwell, starting against Hibs on Sunday. The 28-year-old defender missed three months of last season after sustaining a knee injury against Celtic, and was then beset with niggles that saw him make only six more appearances. However, with a pre-season under his belt, the big stopper feels ready for the new season, and hopes it can get him back in with the Cranes.Continuing his good form this season when Hibs visit on Sunday can only stand him in good stead.Mugabi said: “I’ve had a few conversations and funnily enough the manager [Milutin Sredojevic] called me yesterday (Thursday).

It was just encouragement, wishing me all the best for the season.“Uganda is obviously my motherland, I’m sure my family and friends will be very happy if I was to get selected again.“It’s a huge achievement to be in that type of set-up and it’s something I’ve always cherished.“Hopefully if I continue to play well and play consistently well for the team then all those accolades come along with that.“All I can do is focus on my job first and foremost, perform for my club, and if they come calling, they come calling.“I’m feeling great, compared to last season when it was very stop and start, and I just wanted to get a full pre-season under my belt, stay injury-free, and focus on what the gaffer wants from us, and what I want for myself.“But I got to start the first game of the season, which was a huge positive for myself, and I can only kick on from there.”Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
