More than half of the population of the UK has now had a first dose of a coronavirus vaccine, according to latest figures. In England a total of 38,792,402 Covid-19 vaccinations took place between December 8 and April 24, according to NHS England data.

Of these, 28,227,710 were the first dose of a vaccine while 10,564,692 were a second dose. From Monday, about 500,000 44-year-olds will now receive a text inviting them to get their jab through the national booking service.
