Line of Duty star is now getting her teeth into meatier roles, despite an early crash-course in the trials and tribulations of rejection.“I was lucky to have spent ten years [at the Television Centre],” the 38-year-old admitted.“[However] it wasn’t in London so it was never a first stop on casting directors’ lists."My upbringing made me feel I wasn’t entitled to anything that comes my way, and I had to manage rejection.”It was a slow start with seven years between her first film, A Room For Romeo Brass (1999) and her second, This Is England (2006), plus a further four years until the subsequent Channel 4 mini-series follow-up.Yet she persevered and now Jed Mercurio, the writer of Line Of Duty and executive producer of bomb squad drama Trigger Point, saw past her lack of silver screen perks to the potential of the actress within.Having seen her stellar performance on Line Of Duty, he has since described her as the woman on top of every casting list in the UK.It's a far cry from her early career in retail, during which she was a shop girl at H Samuel, Boots and Dorothy Perkins.She also worked in an office for eight years, which she now recalls as an essential grounding experience for her.The experiences were all with the ultimate goal in mind - acting.“You do have to have some funds and that’s why I worked, so I could afford to get to London," she admitted during an interview with The Radio Times."I would have to take a day unpaid off work and go to London for auditions.”Speaking of inspiring those from a working class background, she adamantly and defiantly exclaimed; "There’s no reason why they shouldn’t have the same opportunities as everyone else."Now she is switching from the much-loved character of DI Kate Fleming in
