A yearly New Year message showed Russian President Vladimir Putin "beheaded" after a gaffe by a TV news channel. The blunder resulted in viewers seeing only the lower part of Putin's face during the broadcast by a news channel in Kaliningrad, the country's most westerly region.
The 68-year-old appeared with his eyes and forehead cut out as he spoke to Russians against a backdrop of the Kremlin. The embarrassing scandal by the channel in the region was blamed on a "technical glitch" rather than political protests.
