The vile thug who supplied the gun that was used in the murder of Liverpool schoolboy Rhys Jones will be released from jail, the victim’s family has been told.

One-time Cropteth gang member James Yates is known on Merseyside for his role in the murder of 11-year-old Rhys, who was shot dead by teen Sean Mercer in 2007.

He also helped the killer cover his tracks following the shooting. Known as "Yatesy", his 2015 decision to ask for the lifting of a banning order – stopping him going back into the neighbourhood where Rhys' parents live – so he could visit a sick relative sparked widespread fury.
