The US now has the highest number of reported deaths due to coronavirus in the world, surpassing Italy and Spain. On Saturday night the death toll surpassed 19,600, according to figures from Reuters.
For the last four days in row the US has seen its highest death tolls with roughly 2,000 deaths a day reported. Italy has seen the second highest number of deaths at 18,468, followed by Spain with 16,353.
The US has five times the population of Italy, and nearly seven times the population of Spain. China, which has a population of 1.3 billion, has a recorded death toll of 3,339, according to worldometers – however many have speculated the real figure may be higher than this.
