The United States is confirmed to have one million coronavirus cases - a third of the total across the world. The total has double in the last 18 days as the country struggles to deal with the worsening pandemic and a cratering economy.

A total of 1,002,498 coronavirus infections have now been confirmed in the US, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Spain has the second highest number of cases with at least 232,000. More than 56,400 Americans have died with Covid-19 - an average of about 2,000 a day this month.

But despite these alarming figures some Americans continue to protest for their states to be 'reopened' so they can return to work and businesses can reopen.
