Urban explorer reveals eerie photos of ghost town abandoned almost 100 years ago

The practically deserted town of Bartlett is situated just one hour north of Texas' capital Austin.Around 1,600 people remain in the ghost town, with most of the commercial and residential properties left vacant and disintegrating.

Residents started to flee the town during The Great Depression from 1929 to 1933, when the railroad went bankrupt and the cotton industry fell into a steep decline.The photographer, who asked not to be named, has been shooting ghost towns across the world for the last 16 years.He said: “I came across Bartlett on a road trip around Texas, I just stumbled upon it.“There were no cars passing through, and no-one at all walking on the streets, I was thinking ‘this is so weird'.“The whole place is just dead.

All the shops are closed and the shelves inside are empty.“I stopped and walked around for over an hour and didn’t see a single soul on the high street.“It felt like I’d stepped onto a movie set or into some post-apocalyptic world, going from Dallas to there was a massive culture shock.”Bartlett's abandoned and dilapidated setting has been used as a set for multiple movies and TV shows, including "True Grit", "The Newton Boys" and "Revolution".The photographer added: “I love seeing what people have left behind in ghost towns.“It’s like stepping back in time.“To see the traces of what those people were like.
