Britain will be bathed in glorious sunshine for the VE Day bank holiday – with temperatures soaring to 26C as a Spanish plume bakes Britain.
The scorcher will send the mercury higher than Mediterranean holiday hotspots such as Monaco and Corfu. The warmer weather arrives just before Boris Johnson will announce the ease of lockdown rules this weekend.
Phase two of lockdown could mean friends and family can meet up and enjoy picnics together as long as they adhere to the two-metre distance rule.
The Met Office said an area of high pressure will move across the south of England on Friday, bringing sunny skies and warm weather, with the mercury soaring into the mid-20s in London and the South East by the afternoon.
