I was appalled to hear Boris Johnson suggest care home staff didn’t follow procedures to protect residents from coronavirus.
They were the care home workers who left their families and reported for duty at the height of the pandemic, often wearing bin bags and home-made masks for protection.
In my experience, care home workers are devoted, thoughtful, skilled and often become friends of the family. My mum went into a home after a spell in hospital when she stopped eating.
My late husband Colin used to visit her at home every day with fresh food but started seeing it go mouldy because she was leaving it.
